>>> Sell Your Art Online

You should sell your art online! How many of your peers tell you that?

Selling your art online has its own challenges not the least of which is the fact that if you're building websites, you're not creating art! Most people don't realize that once your website is established, an hour a day is a reasonable amount of time to build and maintain your site. And what if you could justify NOT having to go to at least one or two of those art shows you always have to drag yourself to.

A common mistake among most artists is not going after their niche markets. To sell your art online, you need to attract your buyers. Understand who is interested in your artwork and what are they typing in the search engines. The art pictured to the left is made with glass infused copper. The art site that I pulled this from was all about glass infused to copper. That might interest the artist but what if someone is looking for geckos? or art geckos? or cool geckos? The point being that very few people who buy it really care how it was made. You can sell the process once your buyer is on your site but you've got to get him or her there first!

But really, this isn't just a common issue among artists. This really gets back to keyword research and trying to figure out what your prospects might type in the search engines when they are looking for what you have to sell. According to Google, "Gecko Wall Art" is searched more than 50 times a day. It's also a good, non-competitive term to use (you can find out why using our tutorials). Assuming you have a compelling product (which I think the one that is pictured is), 50 times a day translates to more than 18,000 seaches and 9,000 visits to your webshop in one year for the specific purpose of finding a Gecko to hang on the wall! (The number one position in Google gets more the 50% of the organic clicks.)

In our ecommerce planning workshops, we teach you how to develop a predictable, profitable web shop. Predicting the conversions is the hardest part assuming your price is not out of the ball park completely. One thing to note however is the more you niche, the more you convert. That's because you are answering a very specific need. So for the sake of argument, lets assume the conversion rate in this case is 3%. Let's also assume this Gecko comes with two smaller buddies and the whole group sells for $19.95...not a bad price for unique artwork. How do the numbers bear out?

9,000 visits x 3% conversion x $19.95 = $5,386.50

Not a bad day's work. These are mostly first time buyers. This artist very smartly sells add-ons, families of Geckos and in other niches. These numbers don't account for repeat buyers, cross-sales, direct sales and referrals from other sites. This is strictly from search engine searches. So yes, sell your art online.
